Sports & Leisure Insurance
A standard travel policy doesn't cover injuries sustained while doing sports or outdoor activities. For coverage to apply, the policy must meet these requirements:
Key policy requirements:
- Sports risk included: The policy must include an "Active leisure," "Sport," or "Extreme" option naming the specific activity — e.g. skiing, diving, surfing, trekking, ATV riding.
- Higher coverage amount: For active leisure and sports, choose the highest coverage limit available — evacuation and specialized treatment cost significantly more than standard coverage.
- Specific medical and search risks: Search-and-rescue and evacuation (e.g. helicopter rescue from the mountains); transport to a specialized hospital; early return or repatriation; coverage for braces, orthotics, and emergency trauma care.
- Competition status (if applicable): If the trip includes official competitions or professional training camps, this needs to be stated separately — a regular "active leisure" option isn't enough.
- Deductible: For visa purposes and reliable injury coverage, a zero deductible (€0 / $0) is recommended.
Coverage doesn't apply if the injury occurred while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or due to a safety-rule violation.
